Kirk Sorensen started experimenting with thorium while working for NASA as an aeronautical engineer. He left NASA in 2010 to work at Teledyne Brown Engineering as the principal nuclear technologist. He started Flibe, a firm dedicated to the development of modular thorium reactors, in 2011.
