Kiran Bir Sethi is a Designer who became a Teacher, a Principal who evolved into an Education Reformer, and a Social Entrepreneur. She is a trained graphic designer who uses design language – iteration, prototype, design specs – to develop not only curriculum innovation, but also community-based Social Programmes. Sethi successfully ran her own Graphic Design Firm for over a decade after graduating from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad (India) in 1989. She entered the field of education in 2001, when she founded The Riverside School in Ahmedabad, India, which is now regarded as a laboratory for prototyping "design processes" that enable "transformative" learning.She also founded aProCh, a project to make our cities more child-friendly, for which she was named an Ashoka Fellow in 2008. The King Centre at Stanford presented her with the Call to Conscience Award in 2009. Kiran launched "Design for Change" in 2009, which employs a simple four-step design framework – FIDS (Feel, Imagine, Do, Share) – to instil the I CAN mindset in all young kids. Today, DFC is the largest global change movement - of and for children - with a presence in 60+ countries as well as an impact on over 2.2 million children & 65,000 teachers.
