Kimmie Weeks experienced civil war, struggling, and death as a child. He has developed partnerships and led organizations that provide education in West Africa, advocated for child soldier disarmament, and provided healthcare and recreational supplies to children. In 1998, he published a report on the Liberian government's involvement in child soldier training.
Following several assassination attempts, he was granted political asylum in the United States, where he founded Youth Action International to assist families in post-war countries. It aided nearly 150,000 people in Africa in 2008.
