Kimmie Weeks Biography

Kimmie Weeks experienced civil war, struggling, and death as a child. He has developed partnerships and led organizations that provide education in West Africa, advocated for child soldier disarmament, and provided healthcare and recreational supplies to children. In 1998, he published a report on the Liberian government's involvement in child soldier training. Following several assassination attempts, he was granted political asylum in the United States, where he founded Youth Action International to assist families in post-war countries. It aided nearly 150,000 people in Africa in 2008. He was the youngest recipient of Liberia's highest honor, Knight Grand Commander in the Humane Order of African Redemption, after receiving the Golden Brick Award in 2007. As an international peacemaker, he is featured in Peace in Our Time. His work was featured in a series called 4REAL in 2008. His work and life were featured in CNN's African Voices series in 2009. He received his Bachelor's degree from Amherst College and his Master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He is the Executive Director of Youth Action International and a member of the DoSomething Board of Directors.
