Kevin Padian Biography

Kevin Padian is a University of California, Berkeley Professor of Integrative Biology, Curator of Paleontology at the University of California Museum of Paleontology, and President of the National Center for Science Education. Padian is passionate about vertebrate evolution, particularly the origins of flight and the evolution of birds from theropod dinosaurs. In the Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District trial, he testified as an expert witness for the plaintiffs, and his testimony was cited numerous times in the court's decision. Padian graduated from Colgate University with a bachelor's degree in Natural Science, a master's degree in teaching, and a doctorate from Yale University. where he concentrated on the evolution of pterosaur flight Padian, in addition to his work at Berkeley, taught high school science and was the primary author of the California Science Framework K–12. In 2003, he was awarded the Carl Sagan Prize for Science Popularization by Wonderfest. Based on histological analysis of fossil bones from the UCMP and the Museum of the Rockies, he coauthored several papers with John R. Horner and Armand de Ricqlès. Padian has published over 100 scientific papers. Padian was named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2007.
