Kevin Gilmartin Biography

Gilmartin is a management and behavioral science consultant specializing in public safety and law enforcement. Previously, he spent twenty years in law enforcement in Tucson, Arizona. Throughout his tenure, he headed the behavioral science department and hostage negotiation team. He is a past recipient of IACP Parade Magazine's National Police Officer Service Award for endowments during the hostage negotiations. He currently has a consultative relationship with national law enforcement agencies in the United States and Canada. He is a visiting lecturer at the Police Leadership Institute at the University of Massachusetts as well as the Texas Law Enforcement Administration Institute at Sam Houston State University. He is a lecturer at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and an instructor of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Institute (LEEDS, EDI, & National Executive Development Institute). Moreover, he is employed by various federal law enforcement agencies' critical incident response teams.He is a founding member of the IACP: Section of Psychological Services and a past Vice President of the Society of Criminal and Police Psychology. He holds a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Arizona. In addition to being the writer of the book Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement, he is the writer of several articles released by the Department of Justice, the IACP, & the FBI. He is in an expert United States Marine Corps and lives in Portland, Oregon, & Tucson, Arizona.
