Kent Connaughton is the Regional Forester for the United States Forest Service's Pacific Northwest Region, where he is in charge of 16 national forests, the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, and the Crooked River National Grassland. Connaughton began his career as a forest economics researcher at the Pacific Northwest Research Station.

During his 30-year career with the US Forest Service, he served as Forest Supervisor on California's Lassen National Forest and as Deputy Regional Forester in the Pacific Southwest Region. Prior to being named Regional Forester for the Eastern Region in November 2007, he worked in Washington, DC as the Associate Deputy Chief for State & Private Forestry.
