Keith Kirkland is the Co-Founder of WearWorks, a company that designs haptics. WAYBAND, the firm's first product, is a wearable haptic navigation device for blind and visually impaired users. The band guides users through vibration rather than visual and audio cues, and in 2017, a blind WAYBAND user ran the first 15 miles of the NYC marathon without sighted assistance.
Kirkland is also a mechanical engineer, accessories designer, and industrial designer. His TED talk Wearable tech that helps you navigate by touch was released online in April 2019. He has also collaborated with The Met, Coach, Calvin Klein, Nordstrom, and Rutgers University.
