Keith Ellison is a revered lawyer, civil rights advocate, and politician who has served as Minnesota's 30th Attorney General since 2019. Ellison earned a B.A. in economics from Wayne State University and a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School.
For 16 years, he practiced criminal defense and civil rights law in Minneapolis, including five years as executive director of the nonprofit Legal Rights Center, focusing on indigent defense and racial justice. Entering politics, he served in the Minnesota House (2003–2006), then as US Representative for Minnesota's 5th District (2007–2019), becoming the first Muslim in Congress.
