Kaz Firpo Biography

Award-winning filmmaker, photographer, and director Kaz Firpo is a Tisch School of the Arts alumnus. His writing examines humanism and political structures. His emphasis on impact storytelling has earned him a spot on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, the top spot on the 2017 Black List, and the Best Documentary award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. He was born and raised in San Francisco. Kaz, who is primarily interested in telling human tales, worked on the front lines of the Syrian refugee crisis to produce The Refuge Project, a multimedia documentary that had its debut at SXSW. Since then, he has worked with groups like UNICEF, WWF, and PeaceDirect to produce extensive documentaries showcasing their efforts in war zones all over the world. He has led photo trips to places like Mount Kilimanjaro and the Swiss Alps, and has photographed editorials and covers all over the world, from Jaipur to Joshua Tree. His commercials have played the Super Bowl, had hundreds of millions of internet views, and have been showcased everywhere from Times Square to the top of AdWeek. Since he was eight years old, he has been producing films. He has written seven full-length movies, including the post-war drama Ruin, starring Margot Robbie, and the near-future thriller Mimi From Rio, which Ridley Scott is producing and is set up on Netflix. The Eternals, starring Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, and Gemma Chan, was written most recently by Kaz for Marvel Studios. He has won the Black List, Hit List, and Blood List awards, and he has placed in the top three of the Academy Nicholl Screenwriting Fellowship thrice. He is now working on his debut feature picture, which will begin production in 2020. He enjoys extraordinary stuff.
