Katie O'Donnell Biography

Katie O'Donnell is a field hockey player from the United States who joined the University of Maryland in 2007. Wissahickon High School in Ambler, Pennsylvania was her alma mater. She is the newest member of the US women's national team and has quickly established a reputation for her great stick skills and ability to create. Her abilities were on full show during her freshman season when she won a starting position at forward for the preseason No. 1 squad in the country. O'Donnell made an early impression at the University of Maryland, putting up a freshman campaign that garnered national attention. She concluded the season with 18 goals and 17 assists, good for a ten-point advantage over the rest of the country. She scored goals in 13 of the 21 games she played, including five multi-goal games. O'Donnell scored six game-winning goals, including one in overtime versus Michigan, who was ranked 12th at the time. O'Donnell was named ACC Offensive Player of the Year, becoming the first rookie to do so. She was also named National Rookie of the Year and a member of the First Team All-American team. The NCAA Women's Field Hockey Championship was won by Maryland in 2008.
