Katie McGrath was born in Ashford, County Wicklow, Ireland, and attended St. Andrews College before having graduated from Trinity College, Dublin, with a history degree. She loved working in fashion journalism and began her career as a wardrobe associate on the set of The Tudors.In 2007, McGrath was cast in Damage, an Irish TV film.
She also appeared in Bedrock Productions' La Marea at the 2007 Dublin Theatre Festival. Until being cast in Merlin, she appeared in the feature films Eden and Freakdog. McGrath also appeared in a five-part Channel 4 docudrama about Queen Elizabeth II's life, in which she performed as a young Princess Margaret.
