Katherine (Katie) Louise Bouman is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the California Institute of Technology. She researches computational methods for imaging and was responsible for the first visualization of a black hole using the Event Horizon Telescope.Bouman is from Indiana.
She first heard about the Event Horizon Telescope telescope as a student whilst a high school student in West Lafayette Indiana. She studied electrical engineering at the University of Michigan and graduated cum laude. She earned a master's degree in electrical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she also completed her doctorate.
