Kathleen Hochul is a United States politician currently serving as the 57th governor of New York since August 24, 2021. She is affiliated with the Democratic Party and is the first female governor of New York, as well as the first governor from Upstate New York since Nathan L. Miller became governor in 1920.
In the 2014 New York gubernatorial election, Andrew Cuomo picked Hochul as his running mate, and following their victory, she was sworn in as lieutenant governor. Cuomo and Hochul were re-elected in 2018. Hochul took over as governor of New York on August 24, 2021, succeeding Cuomo, who resigned in the wake of allegations of sexual harassment.
