Katharine Viner is the Guardian's editor-in-chief, a position she has held since June 2015. She began working as a writer for the Guardian in 1997. She was named deputy editor of the Guardian in 2008, launched the award-winning Guardian Australia in 2013, and was also the editor of the Guardian US, which is based in New York.

Katharine delivered the 2013 AN Smith Journalism Lecture, The Rise of the Reader, at the University of Melbourne, discussing journalism in the age of the open web, and a speech on Truth and Reality in a Hyper-Connected World as aspect of the Oxford University Women of Achievement Lecture Series in May 2016.
