Katharine Frase Biography

In March 2013, Katharine Frase was named Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of IBM Public Sector. As CTO, she leads IBM's and its clients' innovation and strategic transformation efforts in areas like government, education, life sciences, healthcare, and cities, resulting in the development of innovative solutions. She was previously Vice President, Industry Solutions Research, where she worked across IBM Research on behalf of IBM clients to develop transformational industry-focused solutions, such as the application of IBM Watson technologies to business applications and the implementation of Smarter Planet solutions. Prior positions included technical and business strategy for IBM's software business, corporate assignments on technology evaluation and strategy, and management of process development, design/modeling methodology, and manufacturing of chip carriers, assemblies, and tests at IBM Microelectronics. She was elected to the (United States) National Academy of Engineering in 2006. Dr. Frase graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and the University of Pennsylvania with a doctorate in materials science and engineering. She is a member of IBM's Technology Academy and serves on a number of external groups and boards.
