Kate Stone, the child of a continent-hopping engineer and born in Cheshire, England, was frequently left to her gadgets among the world's most differing cultures. Kate learned quickly that non - traditional problem-solving was very much the best kind, whether she was learning to cook rice from Gurkhas or working alongside a garage full of car repairmen in Borneo.
She decided to move to Australia at the age of 20 and eventually to the outback, where she soon found herself herding 22,000 lambs on a 120,000-acre farm.
