About Katastrophe
Katastrophe Biography
Katastrophe (Rocco Kayiatos) is a rapper and producer from San Francisco. He's a seasoned performer who first began competing in poetry slams in 1997. In 2002, he began rapping and producing tracks, combining his passion for music and language. He weaves intricate narratives of lives living beyond the mainstream of education, class, and culture using his beautiful command of words. He creates hip-hop that is both threatening and exuberant in nature. Making sensual, flirty, booty-shaking pop/rap bangers as well as gloomy songs of anxiety and righteous indignation. Katastrophe is a marvel — both genuine and bold, with enough raw energy to electrify Las Vegas and enough thoughtful analysis to spare you years of therapy. Out Music Awards named him Producer of the Year for his debut album Let's Fuck, Then Talk About My Problems. Kayiatos has since released a second album, Fault, Lies, and Faultlines, and his third and finest full-length album, The Worst Amazing, is due out in October on 307 Knox Records. He has toured the United States and Europe on multiple occasions and continues to do so in the promotion of his new albums. In the documentary Poetic License and Pick up the Mic, he appears. For 12 weeks, his video for the song "The Life" was in MTV's LOGO top 10 click list. His music has been included in various short films as well as the Showtime Network's The L Word. The State of Katastrophe, a biopic about Kayiatos, will be released soon. He recently teamed up with Amos Mac to co-create Original Plumbing, the first magazine by and for transmen, which debuted in October 2009.
