He was selected second overall by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, becoming the highest-drafted European goaltender and tying Patrik Laine, Alexander Barkov, and Kaapo Kakko for the highest-drafted Finnish player in NHL history.
