Karen May Biography

Karen joined Google in 2010 to oversee the company's learning, talent, and career development initiatives, bringing more than 20 years of professional experience as an organizational psychologist and leadership coach. Karen is in charge of a worldwide team that serves more than 34,000 Googlers across 70 locations in more than 40 countries. For Googlers of all levels, geographies, and tenure, the team executes a comprehensive range of developmental services, including executive coaching, new recruit onboarding, leadership development, and peer-to-peer training. Karen strives to ensure that most of Google's learning material is designed in the spirit of our cutting-edge products, including our technology and putting the user first. Many of the courses she oversees are collaborative, interactive, and include social media and gaming components. Karen was the CEO of two management consulting businesses she helped start and grow before joining Google. She obtained her B.A. in psychology from Mills College and her M.A. and Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology from U.C. Berkeley. Karen is also a community leader, serving on the Mills College Board of Trustees, the Mills College Alumnae Association, and the Oakland (CA) Police Foundation Board of Directors. Karen may frequently be seen hiking in Marin County's hills with her husband and two dogs.
