Karen Agustiawan is the president and CEO of Pertamina, Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company. Forbes ranked her first on its list of Asia's 50 Power Businesswomen in 2011. Agustiawan was born in 1958 in Bandung, West Java. She is the daughter of R. Asiah and Dr.
Sumiyatno, the former president of the Biofarma pharmaceutical company and the first Indonesian envoy to the World Health Organization. She earned a degree in engineering physics from the Bandung Institute of Technology in 1983. She had planned to become a teacher, but at the urging of her father, she changed her mind and chose to pursue a career in business.
