About Kaillie Humphries
Kaillie Humphries Biography
Kaillie Humphries is the only 2-time Olympic women's bobsleigh champion, with 3 medals in total, which include bronze in PyeongChang 2018 to go along with golds in Vancouver in 2010 as well as Sochi in 2014. The Calgary-born driver has also managed to win nine World Championship trophies and 4 IBSF World Cup awards, compiling one of the better career record-keeping in the sport's history. Humphries started her international career as a brakewoman, going to earn a spot on Canada's Turin 2006 team. After marching with the rest of the committee at the Opening Ceremony, her hopes of competing were dashed when good teamwork informed her that she would not be participating. Rather than giving up, Humphries started training with brakewoman Heather Moyse, and it wasn't long already when they began to see impressive results on the worldwide tour. Those who arrived in Vancouver in 2010 ranked second in the world after winning their first FIBT World Cup race at Altenberg in Dec. 2009. Humphries and Moyse pushed the rest of the competition aside on Canada 1, breaking the Whistler Sliding Centre start and track records in each of the first 3 trials to claim a convincing gold medal. Humphries became the first Canadian woman to win an Olympic bobsleigh headline and the very first Canadian to win the gold in a two-man occasion, securing only her country's second bobsleigh title, 46 years after Peter Kirby, Doug Anakin, John, and Vic Emery won the four-man event in Innsbruck. The Calgary pilot ended up going becoming the world's number one, a position she would hold with different partners. After Moyse left, Humphries managed to win the 2011-12 World Cup title with Emily Baadsvik, and then the world championship in Lake Placid in February 2012 with Jennifer Ciochetti. The following season, she won 6 World Cups in a row, this time with Chelsea Valois, a feat she blocked by retaining her world championship in St Moritz in January 2013. Meanwhile, Humphries competed in international track bike races and symbolized her country at the 2010 Women's Rugby World Cup before undergoing hip surgery in 2012. At the beginning of the 2013-14 season, she was reconnected with Moyse, and the pair progressively found their shape before having to deliver a brilliant performance at Sochi 2014. The Canadians followed the US pair Elana Meyers as well as Lauryn Williams going into the 4th run but generated a fascinating exit to beat their opponents by 0.10 secs becoming the first duo to maintain the Olympic two-woman title. Humphries becomes the first woman to drive an all-female group against men in a four-person World Cup bobsled run on Jan 9, 2016. Humphries won the two-woman World Cup title for the fourth time before competing in her fourth Winter Games, winning four of the eight events with Melissa Lotholz as her brakewoman in the first half of last season and Phylicia George as her brakewoman in the second. And it's with George that Humphries would compete for Olympic gold for the second time in Pyeongchang in 2018. Humphries is engaged in three major causes: the I've Been Bullied campaign, Right to Play, a sports program for disadvantaged children and young people, as well as the Special Olympics. After filing a harassment customer complaint against Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton head coach Todd Hays, BCS granted Humphries' proposal to be published from their program in September of 2019. She then began competing for the U.S.
