Justin Wren Biography

Justin Wren is an American humanitarian and former professional mixed martial artist known as “The Big Pygmy.” A native of Dallas, Texas, Wren was a bullied child in his youth and turned to wrestling, excelling, winning two Prep State championships and a Prep National title under Olympic coaches. 

He stood out in Greco-Roman wrestling, earning two All-American honors and a Fargo national championship. He went on to wrestle at Iowa State University, but an injury limited his career. In 2009, he entered the heavyweight division of Bellator MMA and UFC, finishing his professional career with 15 wins and two losses. 

Wren struggled with depression, painkiller addiction, and suicidal thoughts for most of his career, exacerbated by injuries. A transformative experience living with the Mbuti Pygmy people in the Congo Basin Rainforest shifted his focus to humanitarian work. In 2013, he founded Fight for the Forgotten, a nonprofit that combats the global water crisis and supports marginalized Pygmy communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. 

He has been featured on several episodes of "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast, Sports Illustrated, and TEDx talks. He has co-authored a book detailing his mission, "Fight for the Forgotten," and hosts a podcast with his wife, "Overcome with Justin Wren." The podcast details stories of resilience and echos his "Purpose—Performance—Impact" mantra with speaking engagements worldwide.
