Simms competed in the 2012 season of The Voice, a reality television show. She was selected to be a part of Team Cee Lo after singing the Beatles' Oh! Darling song during her blind audition. Simms progressed to the live rounds following a duel victory against Sarah Golden.
She sang Roxanne by The Police in her first live appearance, which the judges and coaches loved. Simms sang a version of Aerosmith's Cryin' during the quarterfinals. After covering It's A Man's Man's Man's World, she was the only female contender to make it to the finals, edging out Jamar Rogers.
