Judson Todd Allen, who was born and reared in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood, was exposed to savory dishes at a young age. His grandpa, after whom he was called, instilled in him an obsessive desire for "all things eating." Judson's grandfather's Creole traditions and cooking manner shaped his culinary perspective as he grew up in Louisiana.
Judson was clearly in love with wonderful food, from his weekend fishing trips to his anticipated holiday family feasts. His passion for food prompted him to enroll at Chicago's only urban agricultural high school, "The Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences," where he majored in Food Science.
