Ambassador Juan Carlos Capunay is the sixteenth Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat for Peru's 2008 APEC Year. Ambassador Capunay, who was born in 1948, has been a diplomat in the Peruvian Foreign Service since 1972, serving in a variety of positions throughout the Asia-Pacific region, along with postings to China, Singapore, Japan, and the United Nations.
Ambassador Capunay served as Peru's Senior Official to APEC for four years prior to his appointment as Deputy Executive Director. Ambassador Capunay is a National University of San Marcos economic graduate who has earned official decorations from Japan, Korea, and Chile.
