Joshua Bennett is an acclaimed poet, author, professor, and spoken-word artist. He serves as Professor of Literature and Distinguished Chair of the Humanities at MIT. He earned a Ph.D. in English from Princeton University and an M.A. in Theatre and Performance Studies from the University of Warwick as a Marshall Scholar. Bennett is the author of seven books of poetry, criticism, and narrative nonfiction. Notable works include “The Sobbing School” (2016), “Being Property Once Myself” (2020), “The Study of Human Life” (2022), and “Spoken Word: A Cultural History” (2023). His writing explores Black life, ecology, disability, and philosophy through innovative forms. He has performed at the White House, the Sundance Film Festival, and the NAACP Image Awards, and has received fellowships from the Guggenheim and Whiting Foundations.
