Jonathan Ryan Biography

Since 2008, Jonathan Ryan has been the Managing Director of the Immigrant and Refugee Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES). In Central and South Texas, RAICES offers free and relatively low cost legal services to underprivileged immigrant children, families, and refugees. He previously served as a staff lawyer at American Gateways, where he assisted in the establishment of the Legal Orientation Program for adults detained by DHS. Jonathan holds a Bachelor's degree from Columbia College in New York and a law degree from the University of Texas. He joined RAICES in 2004 as 1 of the only 4 employees. The organisation has grown to over two hundred employees under Jonathan's governance. RAICES offers free legal services to unattended minors, families, and adults in and out of detainment, as well as community legal assistance, refugee resettlement as well as post-release support, and advocating on behalf of the customers and the communities in which we operate. Jonathan received the Child 10 Prize in Malmö, Sweden, in 2018. The Child 10 Summit brings together 10 people from across the world to recognise their attempts to safeguard and end child trafficking and violations of their civil rights. RAICES aims to extend beyond Texas this year becoming a national nonprofit organisation.
