Jon Drummond, a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is regarded as one of the finest starting pitchers in the world. Drummond won the 200-meter dash at the World University Games in 1991. Drummond ran the opening leg for the American 4x100 m relay team at the 1993 World Championships, which won gold and tied the world record of 37.40 seconds.
He raced the second leg of the American 4x100 m relay team at the 1995 World Championships, which did not finish its heat when Drummond and Tony McCall failed to complete their pass.
