John made his cinematic debut in Carlito's Way in 1993, as Al Pacino's little nephew Guajiro. El Cantante, Take the Lead, Before Night Falls, Amistad, Ransom, and Narc were among his many cinematic roles. His recent film roles include Russell Crowe's sidekick Javy Rivera in Ridley Scott's American Gangster and drug kingpin Jose Yero in Michael Mann's Miami Vice.
Ortiz's television credits include the lead in J.J. Abrams' HBO film Hope Against Hope, a series regular on Denis Leary's The Job and CBS Clubhouse, and a series regular on Brett Ratner's NBC detective thriller Blue Blood.
