He went to Stanford University where he was admitted to the Zeta Psi organization. He graduated in 1956 and was chosen as an agreement All-American that year. He initially showed up with the 49ers as a youngster in 1957 seeing constrained activity. He got all the more playing time in 1958 through 1960 imparting time to Y.A.
Bit and turned into the starter in 1961 holding that job through 1973. He was among the main passers in the association all through the 1960s and showed up in the Pro Bowl in 1965 and 1970. Likewise in 1970, he got the NFL's Most Valuable Player Award.
