He was taught at Belvedere College and Trinity College Dublin where he got his Ph.D. He joined Radio Éireann in 1962 turning into the moderator and pundit on various current undertakings programs just as an expert of political turns of events and questioner of government officials on radio and later on TV.
During the 1980s he introduced the extremely famous current issues program Today Tonight the antecedent to Prime Time. He has led the crowd support political program Questions and Answers on RTÉ TV for various years and introduced Bowman Sunday Morning (beforehand Bowman Saturday) on the radio a week by week arrangement of material from broadcasting documents at home and abroad.
