Chef and proprietor of The Little Owl, The Venue, Market Table, and The Clam. Joey Campanaro was born and reared in Philadelphia, where the food of his youth motivated him to pursue a career in the kitchen. Campanaro brings a lifetime appreciation for Mediterranean cuisine to every dish he produces, with a culinary style based in his Italian grandmother's kitchen and developed in a variety of America's greatest restaurants. Campanaro began his career as a youngster working at Jersey Shore seasonal eateries. The familial, lively aspect of restaurant life drew him in immediately, and he went on to major in restaurant management at Penn State University. Campanaro spent an inspirational semester in Italy throughout his studies, seeing firsthand the Mediterranean lifestyle and food. His passion for Mediterranean food was strengthened during a trip to France to study winemaking. Campanaro's dedication and culinary abilities gained him jobs in some of America's best restaurants, including Neil Murphy, Joachim Splichal, Jimmy Bradley, and Jonathan Waxman, in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and New York. Campanaro was also the Chef de Cuisine of Universal Studio's Executive Dining Room and the owner of his own Hollywood-based catering firm while in Los Angeles. Campanaro returned to New York in 2001 to launch The Harrison in Tribeca, which received two stars from The New York Times. He became the Executive Chef at Pace, an Italian restaurant in TriBeCa, in 2004, and subsequently reopened his catering company, Blackfoot Consulting. Campanaro continues to cater and consult for prestigious clients such as Martha Stewart, Mike Piazza, NBC Universal, and Condé Nast Publishing through his Blackfoot Consulting firm. BUILDING BRAND VALUE TO THE FINAL STAGE The Little Owl, Campanaro's ideal restaurant, opened in 2006. The Little Owl has maintained its reputation as one of New York's most fascinating restaurants, garnering praise from critics and diners alike, including a two-star rating from The New York Times. Little Owl - The Venue, a private event venue and culinary showcase at 93 Greenwich Ave., has subsequently joined the Little Owl. The location is a versatile chamber that has provided Campanaro with a canvas to display his ability and enthusiasm on a more intimate scale, with seating for up to 70 people. Campanaro and his friend Mikey Price opened Market Table in a lovely part of Manhattan's West Village area in 2007. Warm hospitality and market-driven modern American food take center stage here. Following the success of Market Table, the team has opened The Clam, a seafood-focused restaurant in the West Village just a few steps from Market Table. Campanaro and Price's collaboration has been featured in several publications, including Food & Wine, Condé Nast Traveler, The New York Times, New York Magazine, Time Out New York, Travel + Leisure, NBC's "Today" show, and others.
