For his portrayal in the 1972 film adaptation of Cabaret, Joel won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a British Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor (directed by Bob Fosse). He is one of just nine performers in history to win both a Tony and an Academy Award for the same performance.
