Joe Robinson Biography

For as long as I can remember, I've been playing guitar. I don't consider myself self-taught because my fascination with this instrument was driven by the impact of so many greats. I studied from the finest, from Jimi Hendrix to Django Reinhardt through Jason Becker. I've always found it simpler and more interesting to write songs than to memorize existing ones, therefore the creative aspect of my music is firmly established. I've published three CDs of original music and have played all around the world in a variety of musical circumstances and settings. Adapting is something I like doing. I used to perform my own unique mix of blues, rock, and funk, but I eventually switched to a solo acoustic style to accommodate the traveling I wanted to undertake. In recent years, I've mostly performed with my own trio, which includes drum and bass musicians I met in Nashville. My most recent release is a four-song EP called ToeJam, for which I chose to just create, record, and release four songs as a sample of where I may go next. Rather than being concerned about the consequences of the music I was making, I simply went with my gut and made sure I was fully engaged in the production by writing and playing virtually all of the instruments. The greatest joy for me is performing in front of an audience. The musical stratosphere has a very rich and extensive library of music, and as an artist and performer, my ultimate objective is to contribute in some way. Are you a rocker? ...in a way, I suppose. Is it true that I'm a jazz musician? ...to some, perhaps. Is it true that I'm a pop singer? No, not quite... I live for the moment when you come across a musical virus that has the potential to infect a stage in some far-flung corner of the globe. And that is what I get paid to do. Not bad for a youngster from the Australian outback.
