JoAnn Gama Biography

JoAnn Gama was brought up in the north side of Houston. In the wake of moving on from Sam Houston High School in 1993 JoAnn went to Boston University on a full grant. In 1997 she joined Teach For America a national corps of high-accomplishing pioneers who submit two years to educate in state funded schools in low-pay networks. After moving to the Rio Grande Valley JoAnn selected at the University of Texas-Pan American and earned her graduate degree in Educational Leadership. JoAnn showed fourth and fifth grade English as a Second Language in Donna Texas. Following one effective year of instructing JoAnn was designated by her companions as the grounds Teacher of the Year. In 1998, JoAnn helped to establish the IDEA Academy inside the Donna Independent School District with individual Teach For America corps part Tom Torkelson. Following one year as a ""school inside a school"" JoAnn and Tom applied for a state sanction so as to open their own contract school. In August 2000 they opened the IDEA Academy Charter School with 150 understudies in grades 4-8. As fellow benefactor and head of schools, JoAnn has helped lead the replication endeavors of the first school. As of now IDEA Public Schools teaches in excess of 23000 understudies in 44 schools across 3 districts—the Rio Grande Valley San Antonio and Austin."
