JoAnn Gama was brought up in the north side of Houston. In the wake of moving on from Sam Houston High School in 1993 JoAnn went to Boston University on a full grant. In 1997 she joined Teach For America a national corps of high-accomplishing pioneers who submit two years to educate in state funded schools in low-pay networks.
After moving to the Rio Grande Valley JoAnn selected at the University of Texas-Pan American and earned her graduate degree in Educational Leadership. JoAnn showed fourth and fifth grade English as a Second Language in Donna Texas. Following one effective year of instructing JoAnn was designated by her companions as the grounds Teacher of the Year.
