Joan Brugge Biography

Dr. Brugge presentently serves as the Director of the Harvard Ludwig Cancer Center and also as a Professor of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School. She earned a B.S. from Northwestern University, a Ph.D. from Baylor College of Medicine, and post - doctoral training with Dr. Raymond Erikson at the University of Colorado. Before joining Harvard (Professor 1997-present, Department Chair 2004-2014) Dr. Brugge taught at the State University of New York at Stony Brook (1979-1988) and was an HHMI professor and investigator at the University of Pennsylvania (1989-1992).Doctor Brugge is also the Scientific Head of ARIAD, a biotechnology company (1992-1997). Dr. Brugge has earned the National Institutes of Health Merit Award, the American Cancer Society Research Professorship, the ASCB Senior Career Recognition Award, and nominated memberships in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences, as well as the Institute of Medicine.
