Jimmy Garvin debuted in the ring as Beau James in 1972. Gorgeous Jimmy Garvin was his new moniker, and he was given two brothers, Terry and Ron Garvin, whom he temporarily managed. From 1978 through 1983, he roamed the Mid-Southern and Florida territories before joining World Class Championship Wrestling. Sunshine, his cousin, accompanied him and served as his valet.
As a heel, he began a rivalry with David Von Erich, which he lost, and he ended himself spending a day on David's ranch with Sunshine, performing ranch labour.
