Jimmie Fails Biography

Jimmie Fails is a film and tv actor probably most famous for his major role in the semi-autobiographical film The Last Black Man in San Francisco. Fails was born and brought up in Francisco, CA, where he resided in the dominantly Black middle-class Fillmore neighborhood until the age of 3. His grandfather's house was evicted after his grandad died since his relatives could not afford the expenditure, and he spent the rest of his childhood in foster homes and social housing. Only he and his dad stayed in the city; the rest of the family had opted to leave. Fails met Joe Talbot as a child at the neighborhood park that separated their two neighborhoods. They quickly became good friends and started making short films together in high school. Their movie, Last Stop Livermore, co-created with Joe's brother, Nat, was a Golden Gate Prize nominee. American Paradise, their 2nd short, made its debut at the 2017 Sundance Movie Festival. As young teens in San Francisco, Talbot and Fails envisioned of the film The Last Black Man as well as initiated a Fundraising campaign to finance it in 2015. Danny Glover, a citizen of San Francisco, contacted Fails immediately to assert his interest in the movie. The semi-autobiographical movie depicts a fictionalised version of Fails, ended up playing by the artist, as he tries to recapture a Victorian home built by his grandfather in a gentrified San Francisco neighbourhood. The movie was Fails' first expert acting role, and it did receive favourable reviews from critics. Talbot founded the film studio Longshot Features with Fails in 2019.
