Jim McDermott is serving his tenth term in the US House of Representatives representing the 7th Congressional District in Washington State. As a senior member of the Ways and Means Committee he is chairman of the Income Security and Family Support Subcommittee and also serves on the Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures.
His long commitment to legislative service has only been interrupted to serve as a Foreign Service medical officer in Zaire. Due to his background in medicine as a physician he is especially interested in health care issues and as a member of the state legislature he developed the Washington Basic Health Plan.
