Jim Gates Biography

James Gates is an American theoretical physicist best known for his work on supersymmetry, supergravity, as well as superstring theory. He is a University of Maryland Regents Professor of Physics and a participant of President Barack Obama's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology awarded Gates an SB (1973) and a Doctorate (1977) degrees. His doctoral thesis on supersymmetry was the very first at MIT. During the 2008 World Science Exhibition, Gates mentioned The Elegant Universe, a ballet in which he offered a public demonstration of the art forms related to his scientific research. In 2012, Gates emerged in the BBC Horizon documentary The Hunt for Higgs.
