Jim Boylan Biography

Jim Boylan is the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association. During the 2007–08 NBA season, he was the interim head coach for the Chicago Bulls. On May 14, 2008, he was appointed as an assistant coach by the Bucks, then on January 8, 2013, he was promoted to head coach when Scott Skiles and the Bucks mutually agreed to split ways. From 1982 to 1986, Boylan was a player-coach in Switzerland, when he guided the Vevey Basketball club to its first title in its 30-year existence. He returned to the United States at the age of 31, working as an assistant under Jud Heathcote at Michigan State University from 1986 to 1989. After that, Boylan took over as head coach at the University of New Hampshire, replacing Gerry Friel. Boylan joined the Cleveland Cavaliers as a video coordinator and advance scout in 1992. In 1997, he joined the Vancouver Grizzlies as an assistant coach, working under Brian Hill and then Lionel Hollins. Boylan joined Frank Johnson's coaching team in Phoenix in 2001, and he continued to work for the Phoenix Suns under Johnson's replacement, Scott Skiles. Boylan worked alongside Terry Stotts for the Atlanta Hawks during the 2003-04 NBA season after Skiles was sacked in 2002.
