Jessica Long is a Russian-born American Paralympic gold medalist in swimming. Born in Siberia to teenage parents, she was adopted at 13 months by Steve and Elizabeth Long. She has fibular hemimelia and had both lower legs amputated at 18 months, learning to walk with prostheses. She competes in the S8, SB7, and SM8 classifications. Long made her debut at the 2004 Athens Paralympics when she was just 12 years old, making her the youngest member of the U.S. team. She won three gold medals at those Games. Over the course of six Paralympic Games, from Athens in 2004 through Paris in 2024, she has earned 31 medals (18 gold, 8 silver, and 5 bronze), making her one of the most decorated U.S. Paralympians. She has also won more than 50 world championship medals and held multiple world records. Long is an ESPY Award winner and has received the AAU James E. Sullivan Award. She continues to be a leading figure in adaptive sports.
