Jesse Armstrong is a British screenwriter, producer, and director, widely acclaimed as the creator and showrunner of HBO's “Succession” (2018–2023). The satirical drama about a dysfunctional media dynasty earned him four consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series, along with multiple Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and Writers Guild Awards.
He studied American Studies at the University of Manchester, where he met collaborator Sam Bain. The duo co-created the BAFTA-winning “Peep Show” (2003–2015) and “Fresh Meat” (2011–2016). Armstrong also wrote for “The Thick of It” (2005–2012), co-wrote its Oscar-nominated film spin-off In the Loop” (2009), and contributed to “Black Mirror”, “Veep”, and films like “Four Lions” (2010).
