Mr. Grantham co-founded GMO in 1977 and currently serves as the firm's chief investment strategist as a member of GMO's Asset Allocation team. Mr. Grantham co-founded Batterymarch Financial Management in 1969, where he suggested commercial indexing in 1971, one of numerous claims to being the first. As an economist at Royal Dutch Shell, he began his investment career.

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom and his MBA from Harvard Business School.
