Jeremy Bird Biography

Jeremy Bird is a co-founder of 270 Strategies and a long-time grassroots organizer with extensive expertise in domestic and international politics, labor, and policy. He co-founded 270 Strategies after most recently working as the National Field Director for President Barack Obama's re-election campaign in 2012, where he was primarily responsible for developing a countrywide army of staff and volunteer organizers. Rolling Stone magazine dubbed Jeremy the campaign's "Field General," and he has been described as "a former Harvard divinity student who turned to political organization as though it were his greater calling." He is credited with helping to build a ground game and turnout machine in 2012 that “reproduced - by raw force, devotion, and will – a turnout in the swing states that in some cases bested the campaign's stunning performance four years ago.” Since 2007, Jeremy has served in a variety of critical leadership capacities in support of President Obama, including serving as the South Carolina Field Director during the 2007-08 primary campaign and as the Ohio General Election Director in 2008. He was also a key figure in several of the Obama Administration's most significant policy successes between 2009 and 2011, including the Affordable Care Act and Wall Street Reform, as the National Deputy Director of Organizing for America, the grassroots group created out of the 2008 campaign. Jeremy contributed to the development and implementation of the Obama campaign's neighborhood team organizing model, an approach that transformed organizing in presidential politics by combining people-focused, community organizing with empowering and inclusive digital technology and cutting-edge data analytics. The Wall Street Journal defined Jeremy's organizational philosophy as "one part facts and one part emotional connection." He maintains a careful eye on whether states are hitting their daily goals, but he also preaches the importance of relationships—both between the campaign and its volunteers, and between volunteers and voters.” His efforts to this ground-breaking organizing approach earned him a spot on Rolling Stone magazine's 2012 "Hot List," where he was described as "the Obama campaign's hidden weapon," with "a vast army of staff and grassroots volunteers for which Romney has no response." Prior to joining the President's organizing team, Jeremy worked for a number of federal and local issue campaigns and candidates, including the presidential campaigns of then-Senator John Kerry and former Governor Howard Dean. He has also served as an organizer for the United Food and Commercial Workers and has advocated for educational equality. Jeremy is a Wabash College and Harvard Divinity School graduate. He grew up in a trailer park in High Ridge, Missouri, and is enthusiastic about grassroots politics, travel, and sports - particularly his local St. Louis Cardinals and his newfound love of soccer.
