Jens Stoltenberg Biography

Jens Stoltenberg was born on March 16, 1959, in Oslo. His father, mother, and two sisters were diplomats, and he spent his formative years abroad with them. Mr. Stoltenberg earned a masters degree in Economics from the University of Oslo. He began working at Statistics Norway after graduating in 1987. Mr Stoltenberg, as Prime Minister, repeatedly urged NATO to focus on security problems near Allied territory. Mr. Stoltenberg is a strong proponent of more transatlantic cooperation, particularly improved burden-sharing across the Atlantic. In terms of ensuring peace and prosperity in Europe and beyond, he sees NATO and the EU as complementing organizations. Mr. Stoltenberg has worked on a variety of international projects. Chairing the UN High-level Panel on System-wide Coherence and the High-level Advisory Group on Climate Change Financing are among them. He was the UN Special Envoy on Climate Change until recently. Ingrid Schulerud is Mr Stoltenberg's wife. They have two grown-up children together.
