Jemar Tisby Biography

Dr. Jemar Tisby serves as a prominent historian and New York Times bestselling author who actively presents about how race and religion intersect with social justice in America. Through his position as President of The Witness: A Black Christian Collective he leads a multimedia platform that promotes Black Christian voices and cultural analysis.

The Color of Compromise: The Truth about the American Church’s Complicity in Racism by Tisby achieved Wall Street Journal and NYT bestseller status while How to Fight Racism received the 2022 ECPA Christian Book Award (Faith & Culture). Dr. Tisby received his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and his MDiv from Reformed Theological Seminary. His Ph.D. in History from the University of Mississippi focused on the study of race, religion and twentieth-century social movements. The current Professor of History at Simmons College of Kentucky also appears on NPR and CNN’s New Day and writes for The Washington Post, The Atlantic and The New York Times.
