Stamps is a systems theorist and the author of Holonomy: A Human Systems Theory, which is based on his Ph.D. dissertation and has a preface by Professor Kenneth Boudling, one of the founding fathers of General Systems Theory. Stamps earned his B.A.
in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire in 1967, where he was Phi Beta Kappa while studying mathematics as an Alfred P. Sloan Scholar at Dartmouth College under John Kemeny. He got an M. Litt (Oxon.) in Political Philosophy from Oxford University in 1969, where he studied at Pembroke College.
