Jeff Ryan was born in Maine and reared there. His love of the outdoors was obvious from an early age (his first memory is sitting under a backyard maple tree at the age of two and being fascinated by the movement of the summer leaves above).
Jeff began skiing at the age of three and by the age of twelve, he was spending at least some summer nights in a canvas pup tent at the edge of the woods. Aboard his early adolescence, he spent two weeks every summer in his parents' 24 foot powerboat exploring the inlets and islands of the Maine coast.
