He has four victories and 25 top-five finishes in his 15-year career. Purvis is currently recuperating from a catastrophic brain injury he sustained in 2002. At Golden Isles Speedway, he competes in Late Model Crates. Purvis debuted in NASCAR in 1990. At Martinsville Speedway, he was recruited to drive Bobby Allison's #12, Raybestos Buick.
He began the race in 31st place, but fell out and finished 28th. Purvis then raced four more times in 1990, this time in the #51 Plasti-Kote Chevrolet of James Finch, who used to own his cars when he competed in late model dirt races. His best result was 31st place in North Wilkesboro.
